Alfa Romeo Giulia QV sets Nurburgring record

Following the debut of its new Giulia Quadrifoglio at the 2015 Frankfurt auto show, Alfa Romeo proclaimed the vehicle had lapped the Nürburgring in 7:39. That gave the German automaker the record for the fastest sedan around the ‘Ring, but now, Alfa’s gone and stolen the record back.

According to Automotive News, the Alfa Romeo Spider have been pushed aside as Alfa Romeo focuses their attention on building the new SUV. In a world where numbers after the decimal point matter, that’s a staggering result. Alfa claims that despite having good handling dynamics, it will also be functional and useful. In this episode, Alfa Romeo’s Giulia Quadrifoglio has reclaimed the record for the fastest production sedan around the famous circuit, with a blazing 7:32 lap time.

Alfa Romeo is among the marques bringing entirely new cars to this year’s LA Auto Show.

But far from letting the automatic transmission do all the work, Alfa Romeo and Maserati test driver Fabio Francia showed what a demon he is on flappy paddles during his fearless record-breaking run. The QV is powered by a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine “inspired by” Ferrari’s twin-turbo V8 motor, packing 510 horsepower (380 kilowatts) and 443 pound-feet of torque (600 Newton meters).
