Mexico’s capital pays last farewell to singer Juan Gabriel

The event will include a candlelight presentation, a dove release and tributes by local performers including singer Patty Deluna, all-female band the Mariachi Divas and a Juan Gabriel impersonator. A mural of him covers a building in the background.

Thousands of fans have paid their final respects to singer Juan Gabriel in Mexico City, many traveling from across the country to bid farewell to the entertainer who died late last month from a heart attack at the age of 66.

07 de septiembre de 2016, 15:01Mexico, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) After two days of exposure at the Mexico City Fine Arts Palace, the box with the ashes of recently deceased singer and composer Juan Gabriel returned to Ciudad Juarez, his native city.

According to Mexico’s secretary of culture, Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, almost 1 million people visited Bellas Artes before the “Querida” singer’s ashes were taken back to Gabriel’s native Ciudad Juárez on Tuesday night. His former house, now to be turned into a museum, will save his remains, with the initials of his real name: Alberto Aguilera Valadez. Gabriel had a performance at the Forum just days before he died of a heart attack in his Santa Monica home on August 28.

A musical tribute also took place at the palace for fans who made the journey to Mexico City.
