“Obviously, Virginia Tech has had a good amount of success recruiting Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee, and this game will be huge for recruiting across the nation”, Beasley said. The Vols trailed the Mountaineers at the half 13-3 but tied the game on a 67-yard Josh Dobbs-to-Josh Malone scoring strike with 10 minutes to go, then won it with a touchdown and a defensive stop in the first overtime.

As Tennessee get set to face Virginia Tech in the Battle at Bristol and new head coach Justin Fuente, they have lots of people they need to watch out for to avoid an upset. “We had to take the carts apart to get it in a rental auto to make sure it got over there”, said Caldwell. “What exactly it’s going to look like, I’m not really sure, but I’m confident that we’ve got a group that wants to play well and will listen to how to play well in order to give ourselves a chance”.

The Vols and Hokies will clash Saturday at 8 p.m. ET before an expected crowd of 150,000 at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee, in what is being billed as “The Battle at Bristol”.

“They got a few more”, he said while confirming that both schools sold out their 40,000 allotment.

“It seemed like everyone involved – us, Virginia Tech and Tennessee – were cooperating from that same position”, Caldwell said.

That pressure facing Tennessee is squarely on the shoulders of its coach, Butch Jones.

“We had several (meetings) in Knoxville and Blacksburg”, Caldwell said, according to the News Sentinel. “At the end of the game we found a way to win a football game”. Although the Hokies eventually cruised to a 36-13 win against Liberty, they weren’t sharp in all phases throughout. Tech quarterback Jerod Evans completed 20-of-32 passes for 221 yards and four touchdowns in his first start, while wide receiver Isaiah Ford had 11 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.

That composure has been something that Fuente and the coaching staff have tried to also pass on to the players. We should do the same things, act the same way, because it’s still one football game and the stage shouldn’t determine our behavior. Nettles continued to rule the road as part of CMT’s 2016 Next Women of Country Tour, visiting more than 30 cities across the US and Canada.

Dobbs, a senior leader for the Vols, said everything about the performance wasn’t negative. We had three or four drives in two quarters.

The big hero here was Jalen Hurd, who picked up QB Joshua Dobbs’ fumble for a touchdown in the extra period.
