Tennessee is seeking to remain in the Top 25 and justify its preseason No. 9 ranking after struggling in a 20-13 overtime triumph over Appalachian State last week.

The Justin Fuente era of Virginia Tech football started off with a win last Saturday as the Hokies defeated the Liberty Flames 36-13. Ford, a 6-foot-2 junior, caught 11 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in a season-opening victory over Liberty after collecting 75 receptions for 1,164 and 11 scores past year. The OVER is 5-0 in Virginia Tech’s last five games against SEC opponents.

Tennessee: QB Joshua Dobbs. The Volunteers had to overcome a 10-point deficit at halftime here. Tennessee prevented Appalachian State from doing much through the air, holding QB Taylor Lamb to just 108 passing yards.

Loaded with talent and coming off a 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS finish to the 2015 season, the Volunteers entered this season with plenty of hype. Tennessee is also 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the ACC, and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss.

Virginia Tech’s locker room, a converted Goodyear tire building on the opposite end of the infield, was beginning to be set up by the school’s equipment managers Friday morning. The Hokies are also 7-17-2 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games on grass. The spread looks pretty good; I think Tennessee will ultimately win but the Hokies can hang in there well enough to cover.
