But thanks to Werdum’s inexplicably careless approach, Miocic needed less than one full round to finish the favorite in front of his fellow countrymen at UFC 198. It was that win that earned Werdum a shot a the UFC heavyweight title. His opponent is on an 18-fight winning streak dating to 2009.
The 33-year-old Cleveland native finally got his shot at the UFC heavyweight title in May and did not disappoint. Since joining the UFC in 2011, he’s 9-2 with six KO/TKO victories.
Fresh off another unsuccessful title challenge, Urijah Faber is back in action fighting the No.13 ranked bantamweight, Jimmie Rivera. “It has never been in Cleveland, so just to get a chance to kick it with the fighters and everything is just a once in a lifetime thing”.
Miocic is one of two fighters from Northeast Ohio entering the octagon on Saturday.
However, the UFC’s recent rash of conquered champions makes Miocic’s meeting with Overeem anything but simple.
The prelims for UFC 203 will also feature a couple of important match-ups. Bantamweight Jessica Eye centers her training on her throwing arm.

Hallie Yavitch, who works for “The Q”, is responsible for booking events arena and worked closely with UFC, said the biggest problem in the past was scheduling a UFC event that did not conflict with Cavaliers games or any other local events requiring “The Q”.
