The wait is finally over for Ed Davis and Michigan State as MSU head coach Mark Dantonio announced on Twitter that linebacker Ed Davis was granted a sixth year of eligibility for this current season.

The announcement ends a prolonged process that began when Davis tore his ACL early in the team’s 2015 fall camp. Heck, this is the biggest road game of the season and Davis being able to take the field with that experience and pass-rushing ability will make Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer more uncomfortable in the pocket. “We felt all along throughout this process that Ed would get an opportunity to play this season once the paperwork was submitted and reviewed”.
Michigan State might be 1-0 right now, but getting Davis back before the biggest non-conference game of the year is huge. After graduating in August, the waiting period ensued. Ed fulfilled his requirements by earning his degree this summer, so it’s great to see him get rewarded after missing all of past year with a knee injury.
In recent weeks, Dantonio revealed Davis had been allowed to practice and was going to classes. “But, hey, you never know”.
We are all talking about how no one likes this week two bye, but it may just be a blessing in disguise in giving Davis time to work with the team and get set for the trip next Saturday.
Davis has recorded 80 career tackles, including 16.5 for losses (72 yards) and 11 sacks (53 yards).

The Spartans have the weekend off after a season-opening win over Furman last Friday. According to MSU coaches, Davis is a very good blitzer.
