The German has been busy in the summer transfer window, as he has completely overhauled the squad to better suit his needs.

Ranieri, who led 5,000-1 outsiders Leicester to the league title last season, backed Liverpool, who ended last season in eighth place, to challenge for the league title this campaign.

The Italian was heralded for guiding the Foxes to the most unlikely of Premier League title wins last season, picking up the GQ Outstanding Achievement award.

Seven new players have arrived, with big money moves for Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum catching the eye.

‘It is important when a player changes country that he adapts and keeps calm.

The Italian is further boosted by the news goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is fit to play having undergone a small operation for a hernia injury that forced him to come off injured in the 2-1 win against Swansea City before the worldwide window. It is different from the Portuguese league but he is a very interesting player. We have a good platform and are building now – when we play lot of matches I’m very confident when they’re fit and ready to play.

“And finally I want to say also thank you to my wife…40 years are so long, yet so short”.

In an interview with BBC Radio Leicester, he admitted we couldn’t only fight for the title, but we are one of his favourites to win it! Now we have two big boys up front who can also play together.

“He [Schmeichel] is ready to play”, he added.

“Now we are champions, we play in Champions League”.

Claudio Ranieri has won just one of his five previous league games at Anfield, back in August 2003 (D1 L3).
