Minnesota Man Confesses to 1989 Killing of 11-Year-Old Jacob Wetterling
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings say they are working on plans to honor Jacob during the team’s September 18 home opener. Danny Heinrich confessed to abducting and killing him in federal court on Tuesday.

Jacob’s mother, Patty Wetterling, sobbed as Heinrich recounted the details of the night that has for so long remained a mystery.
Williams followed the proceedings from the courthouse. After asking the boys their names and ages, he told Trevor and Aaron to run, keeping Jacob behind.
“Heinrich admitted sexually abusing Jacob and then shot him twice”. Heinrich allowed Wetterling to get dressed, he said, but he began to cry when Heinrich told him he couldn’t go home. He returned to the site a year later to discover Jacob’s jacket partially exposed. She would not comment as to whether Jacob’s remains have been released to the family.
The patch is to support the #11forJacob effort started by the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center following this week’s confession from the man who kidnapped and killed Jacob back in 1989.
Last week Wednesday, he led authorities to a grave in a rural section of the county near Paynesville. Human remains were recovered there that DNA analysis confirmed were Jacob’s over the weekend. But at the time, the physical evidence wasn’t considered to be enough to link him to the crimes.
Heinrich led authorities to Wetterling’s grave as part of the plea deal, the Star Tribune reported.
For Jacob’s mother, Heinrich provided the truth she had sought for almost three decades, no matter how harsh.
Federal prosecutors say that after DNA tests linked Heinrich to the Scheierl case a year ago, investigators carried out a search that resulted in the discovery of “collections of child pornography within multiple three-ring binders”. “He was suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old boy named Jared Scheierl elsewhere in Stearns County in 1989”. “Any tool that we have to help kids is a tool that we can use for hopefully happier endings”, says Alison Feigh, program director at the JWRC. “There was a level of anger that came up”, he said.

“I wish we had a different result but the people standing with me today delivered what we could, the truth”, said United States Attorney Andrew Luger.
