Pence sees Trump as fitting heir to Reagan mantle
Earlier this week, Trump, with Pence at his side aboard the Republican nominee’s plane, refused to answer questions about his past comments in which he consistently speculated that Obama was not born in the United States.

“I think it’s inarguable that Vladimir Putin has been a stronger leader in his country than Barack Obama has been in this country. You tell me. Some people say that was not his birth certificate”, he said at the time. “I just don’t know where he’s coming from on foreign policy and on economics and on Obamacare”.
Mike Pence said Wednesday he believes President Barack Obama was born in the U.S., drawing a clear distinction with his running mate, Donald Trump, who has declined to say the same. “Despite the media saying, ‘No, yes, no, ‘ I opposed going in”, Trump said Thursday before a speech on education while visiting a charter school in Ohio.
Trump was perhaps the highest-profile “birther” back in 2011, when he repeatedly raised questions about Obama’s birthplace. Trump was asked if he regretted becoming a part of the birther movement in two separate interviews with local Philadelphia TV station WPVI and Fox News this week. “I don’t talk about it anymore, Bill”.
Instead of being a campaign rally, Pence took the opportunity to talk to the loyal Reagan fans about how Reagan and Trump have a lot in common.
Trump never acknowledged whether he was satisfied with the release of the certificate and has yet to admit that Obama was in fact born in the U.S.
“The only reason it’s germane is because she brought the issue up, and said Donald Trump raised the issue of his Harvard transcripts”.
Meanwhile, Pence’s contradiction of Trump, was far from the first time he’s parted with the mogul. If you’ll recall, Trump outraged black voters when he told them they “had nothing to lose” by voting for him because they were “living in poverty”.
Trump was one of the leading voices supporting the since-discredited theory that Obama was not eligible for the presidency because he was not a natural-born citizen.
