Arsenal have a philosophy similar to Barcelona’s in their approach to the game – and he should be loaned to a club who want to keep the ball and share that vision.

After being with the club since he was nine years old, Wilshere decided he needed to leave in order to guarantee regular first team football having fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Granit Xhaka.

“I had a good chat with the manager and feel sure that this is the best place for me to play and develop this season”, Wilshere said in a message on Twitter.

“This was not a transfer that we expected a few days ago”.

Many jokers on social media are speculating that the deal may fall at the eleventh hour given the 24-year-old’s chequered injury record.

The England global has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and played only three times in the Premier League for Arsenal last season after suffering a fracture just prior to the start of the campaign.

The fitness coach also questionned why Wenger is loaning Wilshere out, speculating the Frenchman may have given up on keeping him fit. Thanks for all your support.’ .

Their sporting director Frank Baumann spoke on Tuesday of his confidence the winger’s arrival was imminent, and after the signing was confirmed said: “We are delighted that Serge has chose to sign for us, even though he had a number of different options”.

“We can give him a platform to deliver his very best”.

“This is a big one for us”, said Howe, who has 10 members of his senior party away on global duty.
