The Alabama Department of Corrections is reporting an inmate work stoppage at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.
Horton said the warden and correctional officers have maintained proper security inside the facility, and ADOC staff are delivering routine services to the inmates without incident. State Sen. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) also called for an investigation of the prison in the wake of the attacks.
The riot is the latest in a series of disturbances that have plagued the agency since January.
Kim Schultz, president of the union representing the department’s officers, called the situation “extremely risky”. There is no way if something happens that they have the manpower to control it, ” Schultz said. “All of them are located in Region 1, in the Panhandle”, the Herald reports.
