Kubiak, without offering his opinion on the Marshall’s decision to take a knee, backed his player Thursday and reiterated his support for Marshall on Friday.

Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall propelled himself into the national spotlight Thursday night when he took a knee during the playing of the national anthem.

“Although we have enjoyed Brandon Marshall as our spokesperson over the past five months, Air Academy Federal Credit Union (AAFCU) has ended our partnership”, Glenn Strebe, AAFCU’s president and CEO wrote on the company’s Facebook page. The quarterback explained he would continue to boycott until he is satisfied with changes made to end racial oppression in the U.S. He eventually came to the decision to kneel in an effort to show respect and honor to those who serve in the military. Many see the action as an indirect (if not direct) result of Kaepernick’s protest – the $1 million dollars rippling out from a courageous quarterback’s symbolic personal stand to the not symbolic streets where it can do some good. “And Brandon has the rights to his belief and stuff and I’m going to keep us focused on the football”.

Many Americans saw Kaepernick’s gesture as a sign of disrespect to the flag and criticism was widespread, but he has also been supported by several fellow athletes, including Megan Rapinoe, a white soccer player who knelt before her game on Sunday.

The NFL said on Friday it will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the United States during games on Sunday, the same day when some players plan to protest during the US national anthem.

Marshall went on to say, “The message is: I’m against social injustice”.

Before Marshall, 49ers safety Eric Reid and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane joined Kaepernick in his silent protest.

Here’s what I wrote that day: “What the National Football League philosophy majors are telling us, in effect, as the hundred million-plus viewers around the nation look on, is that support for the war is the only possible response to the Gulf crisis”.

“You stand for the national anthem, regardless. A lot of people won’t agree with me, but I feel like it’s a attractive thing”.

“This was the right platform”. He told USA Today after the game that “Brandon is a great kid….” I believe in his actions.
