Kendrick Lamar Doesn’t Want Lil Wayne To Retire; Pays Tribute From Studio

“Public service announcement, n***a”. Before his career took off he dedicated an entire mixtape to mimicking his idol and with Wayne’s sudden retirement it was only a matter of time before K. Dot chimed it. Midway through the footage, Lamar stops to offer a PSA: “Nigga talking about retiring”. He says he’s been listening to all of these songs for years: “We going all the way back nigga, when we was 16, 15 years old, nigga, some Hot Boys shit, nigga, day one”. “F- that, n–! Retire, quitting rap, whatever you wanna call it. F- that, n–“. “Not only because of his music but also because of the culture he put behind it”. “Fuck that, nigga. Retiring, quitting rap, whatever you want to call it – nigga, fuck that”.

“I’m in the studio doing motherfucking features.I seen you”. The black-and-white clip kicks off with Kendrick rapping along to throwback Wayne tracks like “Hot Boy” and “Gangsta Shit” (and showing off his best nasally Tunechi impression) before getting serious. Juvenile as well. And yeah, it’s the impact of them man. Wayne responded in kind, calling Lamar, “a real one”. “I see you knock out ten motherfucking features in a row.back to back”.

Yup, it’s safe to say K. Dot was sippin’ on a lil’ something in the studio, but that doesn’t take away from the passionate and compelling argument he makes, touching on Wayne’s legacy and his natural ability to knock out guest verses easily.
