Browns exec explains why Cleveland passed on drafting Carson Wentz

Now that Bradford is on his way to Minnesota, all eyes in Philadelphia turn to who will end up starting for the Eagles under center when the season begins a week from Sunday. He averaged 8.2 yards per completion and threw three TD passes in 38 total preseason attempts, also rushing for 40 yards on five carries.

The Eagles went 1-9-1.

Earlier this week, a Browns official told ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi that the club did not envision Carson Wentz as a future top-20 quarterback, which is why they opted out of the No. 2 pick in this year’s draft. He only practiced fully for the first time since then on Monday.

“This is just the beginning of the new normal for me”, Wentz said after Wednesday’s practice. “We are just trying to get better and get ready to play in a big game on Sunday”. I knew I was taking the mental reps being out the last couple of weeks.

“The championship games over his career, just seeing how well he led his football team, the toughness, not only mentally but physically, some of the pounding that he took just showed you that he was very capable of handling the National Football League”, Pederson said.

“If we didn’t have the confidence in how our team was playing and how we’ve structured the team, and the quarterbacks that are on the roster, we couldn’t do this”.

After the Eagles traded Sam Bradford, Wentz spoke with the former starter.

Pederson said Daniel has the type of temperament to handle the situation. Face it, Bradford was here for just this year and would’ve been gone in a trade, probably one that would not have netted what the Vikings sent back – a first-round pick in 2017 and a conditional fourth-round selection in 2018.

“We don’t have too much time, so we have to take advantage of practice and after practice and try to get the timing right”, DGB said. It’s something that we believe in. “He can take the reins before the end of the season”. Sure. But right now, where we are, we got a good football team around him, great defense, special teams. All the pieces are here for him to be successful and for us to win some games.”But how many?”

“It’s huge. Having the support from your teammates, your coaches, having them every day out there working with me”, Wentz said with a smile.

Foster was listed with the first unit on the Miami Dolphins’ depth chart and will start their opener Sunday at Seattle less than 11 months after tearing his Achilles tendon while with the Houston Texans.

It seems like everyone always wants to know where you were when “such and such” happened, and according to NFL Network broadcaster, Andrew Siciliano, Carson said “I was laying in the middle of a cornfield hunting”.

Ironically, back in 1999, Pederson was that stopgap quarterback that Daniel could have been this season. The list includes Eagles coach Doug Pederson.

And the Eagles fans who have been clamoring for the rookie to start all along finally got their wish.

Pederson believes there is enough talent on the team to still make this season a success, even with a rookie starting at the most important position on the field.
