Turns out the future may have been a month away.

Alcides Escobar has four doubles, two homers, seven RBIs and four runs scored during his eight-game hitting streak heading into an encounter with Wednesday starter Luis Cessa.TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, YES (New York), FSN Kansas CityPITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Luis Cessa (4-0, 4.11 ERA) vs. Royals RH Ian Kennedy (9-9, 3.57) After making eight straight relief appearances, Cessa won his second consecutive start on Friday by working around a pair of blasts from Manny Machado in a 14-4 rout of Baltimore. Kennedy gave up four runs in 6 1/3 innings. Matt Strahm came in against Brian McCann for a lefty-lefty matchup, and the NY designated hitter lofted a fly ball to left to score the go-ahead run. Kendrys Morales thumped a first-pitch curveball nearly to the water falls in deep center field to a two-run shot that pushed the Royals ahead, 2-0.

Rookie Ben Heller pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th.

RHP Edinson Volquez lasted only 3 1/3 innings, his second-shortest outing of the season, allowing 11 of 21 batters – nine hits and two walks – to reach base and four scored.

OF Daniel Nava was traded to the Kansas City Royals with cash for either a player to be named or cash Monday.

The Royals managed just one hit over the final 10 innings after scoring four runs in the first three innings. He left the game with a 4-2 lead, but last year’s World Series champs tied it with runs in the sixth and eighth. Castro followed moments later with his two-run shot.

The Yankees had two singles in the fifth, but Kennedy retired Aaron Hicks and Gardner to preserve his shutout.

The Royals chose to intentionally walk Jacoby Ellsbury to load the bases for Gary Sanchez, but Sanchez hit a bullet at third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert, then Mark Teixeira hit a rally-ending grounder to shortstop, stranding the go-ahead run at third base.

Both teams had chances to push runs across before the 13th inning.

Ellsbury drove in the game-winning run in the 10th with a two-out, bases-loaded infield hit. He issued a leadoff walk to No. 9 hitter Raul Mondesi, but after a sac bunt moved the runner to second, Shreve caught him trying to steal third to take the go-ahead run off the bases. He wound up stranded there when Paulo Orlando ripped a line drive right at Castro at second base.

Shreve responded by calmly striking out Kendrys Morales, then retiring Salvador Perez on a fly out, to preserve a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. “Everybody is going to be able to recharge a little bit. It’s going to be good for us to just relax a little bit”.

“Another silly rain delay”, Girardi said. The dominos included right-handed Chien-Ming Wang heading to the disabled list and infielder Christian Colon heading to Class AAA Omaha.

Davis, in fact, was almost activated before Wednesday’s game, but a rainout at Class AAA Omaha on Monday delayed his final rehab appearance.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Cessa, left, talks with catcher Gary Sanchez during the secon … Hicks left the game after grounding out in the ninth with a right hamstring strain.

“I want to be that guy”, Shreve said of becoming a reliable late-inning arm before Betances. “It’s probably not a day-to-day thing”.

In other news, outfielder Lorenzo Cain got Wednesday night off as he deals with a wrist injury that has plagued him for about two weeks.
