Billy Crudup is no stranger to the world of comic book movies after playing the iconic Dr. Manhattan in Zack Snyder’s big screen adaptation of Watchmen, but he now looks set to join the DC Films Universe.
In an report by Variety, it is said that Crudup is in talks to take on the role of Henry Allen.
Warner Bros. frequently dips into their own past for new films; once they’ve worked with – and like – and actor, they tend to show their loyalty, so Crudup getting another shot in a superhero world isn’t too surprising. It is now without an official release date, although production is planned to start this year with a 2018 release date likely. The film will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, based on a treatment from Chris Miller and Phil Lord. The cast also includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg. Aquaman will follow, with Shazam also jumping in before the second Justice League chapter.

Fans of The CW are nearly certainly well aware that the small screen Henry Allen has been portrayed (quite well) by former 1990’s Flash star John Wesley Shipp. Billy Crudup, meanwhile, is part of the crew aboard Alien: Covenant, with Ridley Scott’s sci-fi sequel expected to dock on August 4, 2017. Removing one of The Flashes from the timeline entirely, a plot that is now playing out (originated at the hands of DC Films co-head Geoff Johns, no less).
