Putin’s popularity: the envy of other politicians

Both candidates believe they have the upper hand on national security matters, with Clinton contrasting her experience with Trump’s unpredictability and the Republican arguing that Americans anxious about their safety will be left with more of the same if they elect Clinton.

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump showered praise on Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Commander-in-Chief Forum, saying that Putin “has been a leader far more than our president [Obama] has been”.

Trump has previously praised Putin as a forceful leader, adding to that the statement that Putin is a “better leader” than US President Barack Obama. And every time he speaks, that opinion is confirmed.

During a forum televised by NBC on Wednesday, Trump said Putin was clearly popular in his country, pointing to “an 82 percent approval rating”.

“If you were looking for leadership, you didn’t find it in Hillary Clinton’s performance”.

She rebuked an “undisciplined” Trump for discussing elements of a recent classified intelligence briefing during Wednesday s commander-in-chief forum, in which he said he learned that Obama and other USA leaders “did not follow” the advice of USA national security experts.

During the forum Wednesday, the Republican presidential nominee predicted that, as president, he would have a “very, very good relationship with Putin”, whom he described as a “leader”.

CECILIA VEGA: And this morning, President Obama is weighing in from overseas, saying Trump is not ready for the Oval Office.

Seeking to strike a commanding tone, Clinton called for the United States to track down and kill IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as it did Osama bin Laden.

“Here is what I want you to really hear, because even I was shocked by this”.

Obama also hit back at Trump for criticizing his foreign policy record, saying the Republican nominee was unfit to follow him into the Oval Office and the public should press Trump on his “outright wacky ideas”.

Barack Obama did not take the comment too lightly to the comment.

ALLEN: Expect more of that next week when President Obama heads to battleground Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia suburbs.

She also fleshed out several national security priorities if she is elected, including trying to take out the leader of the Islamic State and vowing to defeat the extremist group without putting US troops on the ground in Iraq or Syria.
