The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking for a brighter season after they couldn’t get into the College Football Playoff even with a 12-1 record last season.
Barrett completed 21-of-31 passes for 349 yards with six touchdown throws and a scoring run.
The Buckeyes rushed for 359 yards which they have accomplished a few times since Urban Meyer has been at the helm. All it took was one game to show the names aren’t as important as the jerseys.
‘I have been having conversations off on the sidelines with receivers about different things they see and how we would attack certain situations.
Meyer started the day anxious about how his many inexperienced players would perform on the big stage.
The onslaught would continue in the second half as Barrett would see his day come to an end after setting the school record early along with several other starters.
Ohio State raised the lead to 14-7 on a 25-yard touchdown throw from Barrett to Dontre Wilson.
The Buckeyes will be at Ohio Stadium again next Saturday, September 10th against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.
Tailback Mike Weber, a redshirt freshman seeing his first playing time, bullied his way for 136 yards on 19 carries.
Freshman Chris Evans ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns, including one in which he burst through a hole on a 43-yard run, taking advantage of a chance to play a lot because De’Veon Smith injured his ribs. “We walked up with our lunch pails and just rode down the field as much as we could”, Sudfeld said.
“You’ve got to love preseason football to be out there on a night like tonight”, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said.
Freshman Rodjay Burns returned an interception 75 yards for a score in the fourth quarter.
BG’s experienced offensive line did a decent job protecting quarterback James Knapke, who was 12 for 33 for 110 yards, but the Falcons couldn’t overcome off-target passes and multiple dropped balls. The Buckeyes outlasted Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.
“Any loss is hard, but every one is a learning opportunity”, Knapke said. “So we’re just going to try to find as many ways to use him as possible”.
“I was a young player once and it’s good to see guys develop and people grow up”.
This game marks Jinks’ debut as Bowling Green’s head coach. They beat Florida A&M 76-0 in 2013.
Despite the youth movement, much of the evidence points toward a decisive Ohio State victory, but it’s tough to gauge those things because this is a new season.
Starting defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle left the game with a leg injury at the end of the first quarter.
Entering a season of lofty expectations, the Huskies raced to a 24-0 first-quarter lead and were never threatened by the rebuilding Scarlet Knights, in their first game under new coach Chris Ash.
BOWLING GREEN: After the loss, the Falcons get their own tuneup game at home next Saturday against North Dakota. The Falcons shocked two Big 10 teams last season on the road, Maryland and Purdue, and stayed competitive against Tennessee in the season opener.
