Arkansas RB Jonathan Williams to miss regular season

Last year, Williams led the Razorbacks with 1,255 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The injury requires surgery, but a full recovery is expected.

“I have no doubt that Jonathan will come back stronger than every”, Bielema said in the release.

Trainer Matt Summers walked with Williams as he gingerly made his way to the sideline after his 11th carry, a run up the middle for no gain during a move-the-ball segment in the second half of the scrimmage.

Arkansas is without Jonathan Williams for the season after undergoing surgery on his foot, so how will the Razorbacks replace their leading rusher?

He briefly considered leaving Arkansas for the NFL last season, but he announced his return prior to the 31-7 win over the Longhorns in the bowl game.

Williams was injured Saturday during Arkansas’ first scrimmage of the preseason.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Williams injury could result in the absence extending to the entire season. Bielema mentioned, too, that junior Kody Walker was “very impressive” during spring practice, “a big physical” back who has a different skill set than Collins.

“If there’s one team in college football that could take a hit at the running back position, it’s probably the Arkansas Razorbacks”, Bielema said.

Expect sophomore Denzell Evans and explosive freshman Rawleigh Williams to help fill the hole Williams left as well. The only three backs to rush for more yards in the SEC last season were Auburn’s Cameron Artis-Payne, Georgia’s Nick Chubb and Mississippi State’s Josh Robinson. “It’s an opportunity for others to take a step forward and I’m excited about that”.
