Newton Didn’t Need To Leave Game After Hit By Broncos
Rivera, an NFL linebacker for nine seasons, believes questionable hits on quarterbacks should be added to the league’s instant replay system.

“I think his style of play is different as far as quarterbacks are concerned”.
“One of the things he said was he can’t wait to get back here and be around the guys, so I’m sure he’ll try to be around”, Zimmer said, “but the most important thing for him is to try to do the rehab”. “I was very encouraged by our tackle play”.
“You can think about it all you want, but you can’t comprehend that, it’s life changing”, DeCastro said.
While typically sized quarterbacks more likely would have drawn flags on some of the hits delivered by Denver, many of those quarterbacks likely wouldn’t have been able to physically remain in the game under such a barrage.
That’s what happened Thursday night, but it somehow got buried in the avalanche of talk about the hits on Newton.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (1) greets Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian (13) after an NFL football game, Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, in Denver. “I’m just glad it was offsetting penalties”. “I mean, it is what it is, but I think he should be treated more like a running back most of the time because he runs the ball a lot”.
“I’m not going to question the doctors, OK? But I’m thinking about Cam Newton being healthy today, tomorrow and 25 or 35 years from now”. “They’re trying to make a game instead of call one”. However, linebacker Brandon Marshall avoided an infraction for a helmet strike on Newton that is expected to result in a fine and which the league said should have been penalized.
“The guy is a. tight end, defensive end playing quarterback”. What are we supposed to do? “And sometimes we cross them but that’s part of the game”. And Newton ran right over him. But that only came after several previous instances of similar hits went uncalled and already had him shaken up.
“Everybody knows what type of player Cam is – he’s the league MVP”. “In the second half, he didn’t run as much because we were hitting him”. “But we didn’t lose the game off that”. “That’s what we do here”.
“If the league is going to be married to concussion protocol, first of all, start it with the officials because they mandate behavior on the field”, Cecil Newton said.
“There was communication between medical personnel on the Carolina sideline, including the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant, and the two independent certified athletic trainer spotters in the booth”, the NFL’s statement said. During stoppage in play while on-field officials were in the process of administrating [sic] penalties, the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant and team physician requested video from the spotters and reviewed the play. The four helmet-to-helmet hits the Broncos made on NFL MVP Cam Newton and whether the league followed proper procedures when evaluating whether he should be in the concussion protocol has dominated headlines.
The NFL has had this problem in how the rules inconsistently protect mobile quarterbacks for years, and it is a significant challenge because the size and athleticism of Newton is a game-changer and the Panthers deploy him in a way that subjects his body to punishment when he decides to take off and run with the ball.
The hits on Newton didn’t necessarily take away the focus from the collapse of the offensive line, which led to the hits.
And then the season started on Thursday night, and it was business as usual.
“We hear (what) everybody says about us being dirty, but we’re not going to stop being aggressive”, Stewart said.
Which brings us to another issue – the referees.
Going nearly to midnight on the East Coast, last night’s game was also down a touch from the Seattle Seahawks vs. He bounced back from his mistakes, just as John Elway asked him to do before the game.

But Newton shouldn’t have to warn the refs of anything related to contact to the head. I saw two plays where he left the pocket where there were big collisions. “He’s a young kid, but man, he played with a lot of poise”, Kubiak said. They fear being seen as “training table” players and “weak” and losing their position on the team.
