Giants WRs to honor 9/11 anniversary with patriotic cleats

In addition to the individual efforts of the players to pay tribute, every stadium around the National Football League will play a videotaped message from President Barack Obama before the games begin. The same message will also be featured before the kickoff of the 4 p.m. games.

Before each of the 13 games, video messages from President Barack Obama and his predecessor, George W. Bush, will be shown. Bush will be accompanied by former First Lady Laura Bush and two NYPD officers who responded to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

New York Giants wide receivers Victor Cruz and Odell Beckham Jr. will honor the first respondents and victims of 9/11 by wearing two separate pair of cleats on Sunday against divisional rival Dallas Cowboys. Both players will wear red, white and blue American flag-themed cleats during the game.

The salutes will be synchronized during afternoon games Sunday.

Every players’ helmet will also be outfitted with a special 9/11 decal, while coaches will all be wearing a 9/11 lapel pin. It is insane that people can look at your Snapchat and come see you. Beckham will wear a special 9/11 cleat during warmups, while Cruz will have a fire truck cleat with his late father’s engine number on them.

The biggest game of the day will take place in NY, where the Jets will commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11 with a pregame tribute before they play the Bengals. “We’ll be ready to play, but it will be an emotional day for a lot of folks around them, and I wanted them to be conscious of that”.
