Jackson leads 13th-ranked Cards past Syracuse, 62-28

Louisville scored 28 points in each of the first two quarters in that game and Lamar Jackson had an insane game with 286 yards passing with six touchdowns, he added 119 yards rushing and two more scores as the Cardinals rolled up 663 yards total in the contest.

Jackson ended up with 411 passing yards, completing 20-39 attempts for one touchdown and an interception. It was the type of performance that starts a Heisman campaign in earnest, replete with announcer fawning and evoking of Michael Vick similarities. The clip is linked below.

First-year Maryland head Coach DJ Durkin rested Hills after his third touchdown pass – a 40-yard catch and run by Moore with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter.

“We’re doing an unbelievable job of executing”, Hills said. But Jackson’s 55-yard pass to Jamari Staples set up Jackson’s 13-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, and Jackson scored his fourth touchdown of the game in the second quarter on a 10-yard run punctuated by Jackson’s leap over diving Syracuse cornerback Cordell Hudson. “I figured I had to take a shot and try to get into the end zone and score”. “We have a lot of big-time players, and I’m trying to get the ball in their hands instead of it looking like me running around all the time”. Another jump is on the way next week. The Cardinals have won both meetings against the Orange since joining the ACC, including last season’s 41-17 win at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. They’re for real, and as long as Jackson stays healthy the Atlantic Division of the ACC promises to be more interesting. Jackson’s numbers should’ve been exponentially better, but his receivers were plagued with a case of the drops; nine of them for approximately 150 more yards, unofficially.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE (1-0): After racking up 663 yards of total offense and holding Charlotte to 0-of-13 third-down conversions in Week 1, Louisville is simply hoping to maintain its high level of play this week.

Babers said the offensive line played “well” and center Jason Emerich called the performance “pretty good”. Charlotte ranks among the worst teams in FBS; Syracuse had one of the worst defenses in the country last season and does not have the speed or athleticism Jackson and the Cards will see next Saturday. The up-tempo offense of Babers gained 426 yards and ran 93 plays and the Orange have found a go-to guy in Etta-Tawo, who has 19 catches for 314 yards in two games.
