Legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of many of Nintendo’s most famous characters, including Mario, took to the stage at Apple’s San Fran launch and showed off the game in all its glory.

Showcasing how the game works, Miyamoto revealed that Super Mario Run is the new runner game where Mario automatically runs to the right of the screen.

The game will initially be available exclusively on the App Store, though it is likely that it will make its way to Android devices soon enough – no word officially on that just yet.

There is no flag in the mode, but rather, the players keep running, jumping and collecting coins until the time runs out.

Although Shigero only announced the game for iOS, according to a report by Kotaku, Nintendo also intends to release the game on Android at some point in the future. Miitomo is more of a social app, whereas Super Mario Run looks to draw inspiration from the popular endless runners that have dominated the mobile gaming scene for several years now.

But if you were left frustrated by the prospect that the new game would only be available on iOS, there’s good news. There is also Toad Tally where you can challenge other players.

What happened to Nintendo’s promised Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem games? Furthermore, Nintendo said today that they will not be able to launch their fifth planned mobile game by March 2017, as previously promised.
