Matt Kenseth wins Pure Michigan 400 in dominant fashion

Raven says they won’t use these rules for the “Chase for the Sprint Cup”. In the DraftKings system it is paramount to target drivers that start further back in the field yet can compete as a top-performing vehicle. “I was getting frustrated – not with him because he didn’t do anything wrong – but just that I couldn’t shake him”, said Kenseth. “From the restart zone to about Turn 2-ish was like a Superspeedway race and it was whoever got locked up (with a dance partner) and the Chevy’s could really hook up, Denny did a spectacular job giving me a good enough push to get by”. “It’s another win going into that first three-race segment in the Chase, so it’s a bonus point or points”.

In other words, he needs to avoid major mistakes during these last four races of the regular season.

“It was a success”, Busch said. The Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was added to the list due to similar speeds as Michigan.

The day wasn’t a total loss for Busch.

“We are die hard”, Roxanne Stein, who has been coming to MIS for every NASCAR race for 22 years said of race fans.

There was damage to the front of Busch’s auto after he went onto the grass.

“It’s early to talk favourites – there’s so much racing to do and there are 16 teams that are capable of winning races on a weekly basis as well as a championship”, he said.

“I can’t remember where we’ve kind of had a stretch like this over these last 10 weeks or so, starting at Charlotte”, Gibbs said.

“From the (NASCAR) trucks and Xfinity, it takes a little while, once you start having fast cars and running up front, to learn how to race with these guys, and today was really good for me”. “You just hope now that we’ll be able to hold some momentum here and head into the Chase, but it’s very hard to do”.

But he got back into the fight. “Just really proud of everyone (on the team) for fighting back”. NASCAR mandated a pair of extra ducts and hoses to be installed in the right side window to aid drivers and teams who were debating whether to sacrifice performance in order to keep the cars cooler.

He had to start at the back of the field because on Saturday his crew changed the engine in the auto.

“We passed a lot of cars”, Truex said. “We will see if it is a fueling issue”.

The high-drag setup might have worked somewhat better Sunday than it did at the 2.5-mile Indianapolis track, which is narrower than Michigan (2.0 miles) and has flatter corners.

We’ll mention at this point that Matt Kenseth, who blew everybody away in qualifying to win the pole, blew everybody away Sunday to win the Pure Michigan 400 in his Dollar General Toyota.

(21) Jeff Gordon, Chevrolet, 200, $132826.

12 – Jamie McMurray (0 wins).

Sixteen drivers will advance to the Chase.

Furniture Row Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. was third. However, the past four races have been won by a Chevrolet and now a Toyota.

Austin Dillon left and Matt Kenseth lead the pack through the first turn during the NASCAR Sprint Cup series auto race at Michigan International Speedway Sunday Aug. 16 2015 in Brooklyn Mich
