A British national was killed in the attack on the Erawan Shrine in Bangkok, it has emerged. “From this incident, it is apparent that there are active individuals or groups that harbor the intention to damage Thailand, who may be pursuing political gain or other intentions by damaging the economy and tourism”, Thailand’s prime minister, Prayuth Chanocha, told CNN.
“Today there is a suspect who appeared on CCTV but it’s not clear… we are looking for this guy”, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha said.
“Our thoughts are with Vivian’s family and we are now working to support them in any way we can”.
The hashtag was first mentioned shortly after the news of the bomb broke, and “Stronger Together” was spotted on signs left outside the Erawan shrine where the bomb was detonated on Monday. The explosion went off at around 7pm in an upscale area filled with tourists, office workers and shoppers.
In a second attack on Tuesday, an explosive was thrown over a Bangkok pier.
“She sustained injury to her hearing due to the blast”, Jose said.
Security camera footage showed people on a walkway at the Sathorn pier being showered with water after the object fell into the Chao Phraya river.
Nationals from China, Hong Kong, Britain, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore are among the foreigners killed in the attack.
At the time of the explosion, while close by, none of the Barnes party had any sense of the devastation already wrought, though they knew lives had been lost.
A statement posted on Chinese micro-blog Sina Weibo said that the tourism authority of Thailand will offer all-out efforts to help Chinese victims of the attack.
Speaking to reporters, he continued what has been a notoriously prickly relationship with the media since the former general took control of the government in a May 2014 coup.
The southern separatist insurgency, which has existed since the 1960s but intensified in the last decade, has killed more than 6,500 people since 2004.
Barnes was just metres away when the bomb went off and he has revealed a last-minute decision to walk the “long way” to the restaurant with his wife and his daughter’s family saved their lives. Do you understand the word investigation? There were no warnings before the bombing and no claims of responsibility so far, CNN said.
The bomb killed at least 20 people, among them nine foreigners, and injured 120.
