After missing six cuts in her first 10 events, the 6-foot-1 Leblanc has started to get her game together, including a T14 at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open last week and a T11 at the Marathon Classic two weeks before that.
The South Korean golfer shot a 6-under 66 Saturday at the Whistle Bear Golf Club for a 54-hole total of 14-under 202 and a one-shot lead over countrywoman Hyo Joo Kim, who shot 68.
“I was five under through 16 holes and had the whole crowd behind me, and the crowds were wonderful today”, said Henderson. So yeah, I was definitely looking forward to it.
“I think that without the putter today I would have been struggling a bit more”.
DIVOTS: Alena Sharp and Maude-Aimee Leblanc topped the Canadians at 69.
Everything went Marina Alex’s way, but she knows she could have been even better.
“I have my dogs here this week”, said Sharp, who describes the course at Whistle Bear Golf Club as being in her backyard.
American Brittany Lang, Spain’s Azahara Munoz and Sweden’s Dani Holmqvist were the clubhouse leaders after the morning session, with all three firing a 5-under 67 before the wind picked up.
Lee eagled the par-5 ninth and had six birdies and two bogeys.
After speaking with reporters, Henderson waded into an area roped off by police and security so she could pose for pictures and sign memorabilia, with one fan even coming away with an autograph on her face. “And you could see all three of us not really playing exactly the way we wanted just because of the wind and the conditions, but I finished 2 under on an afternoon tee time in windy conditions, so I’m happy”.
Matthew also briefly held the lead but a her approach shot found its way between the scorers’ tent and a grandstand, landing near a trailer. “They’re always smiling no matter how I do, so it’s always nice to have that little comfort”.
“I’m just really thrilled”, said Tanguay, who splits her time between the LPGA and Symetra Tours.

Henderson appeared headed to low Canadian honours sitting at 8-under through 16 holes, but she three-putted 17 for bogey and then hit her tee-shot on 18 into the trees lining the fairway.
