Seahawks release former Green Beret Nate Boyer
Needing a roster spot to deal with a growing number of injuries, the Seattle Seahawks parted ways with long snapper Nate Boyer on Tuesday.

Boyer served in Iraq and Afghanistan before joining the University of Texas’ football team and then signed with Seattle in May after going undrafted. He was a long shot to make Seattle’s roster as Gresham signed a new three-year contract with the team this offseason. Boyer was competing to be the team’s backup long snapper.
On Monday the website NFL Draft Diamonds reported that Seattle was planning on signing former Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters to take snaps while Tarvaris Jackson recovers from an ankle sprain.
Glazer also said he was “given an emphatic yes” when he asked if Boyer has the ability to play in the NFL, but the business of football provided a hiccup in Boyer’s quest to play in an NFL game.
He led the team onto the field Friday, carrying an American flag. “I was actually pretty emotional, just because I always think about my buddies who I fought with, or the ones who are overseas right now”. “I enjoyed it. You never know, this might be the only one I get”.
Boyer was four inches shorter, 20 pounds lighter and six years older than incumbent starting long snapper Clint Gresham.
It appears the depth chart will now be Russell Wilson, R.J. Archer, B.J. Daniels, and Waters.
Seahawks GM John Schneider apparently needed Boyer’s roster spot for quarterback Jake Waters.

Waters missed pro day testing because of shoulder surgery in January, but was likely to go undrafted regardless because he lacks ideal size, at 6’1, 217, and doesn’t have a big arm.
