Demian Maia submits Carlos Condit at UFC on FOX 21

The Brazilian went out and proved the doubters wrong Saturday, submitting Condit via rear-naked choke at 1:52 of the first round.

“I don’t know if I have any business fighting at this level anymore”, Condit said. Although it is believed that Woodley will face Stephen Thompson first, Maia said he will wait for his shot at the belt.

Maia made a terrific case for a title shot with the submission win, the 12th of his professional career, but across the Octagon, dejected and embarrassed, lay “The Natural Born Killer”.

Fighters who feel they are deserving of a title shot historically have seen mixed results when their next fight gets booked.

“I think so. I respect very much Thompson, he’s a great guy”. It’s also the kind of thing that could headline a small card or co-main a big one. Lawler vs. Condit 2 is the fight to make. There has been speculation about Condit’s future in the UFC, and he strongly suggested following his loss to Maia that his days as a fighter could be over. I watched his last fight against [former champion] Robbie Lawler and many people thought he won and I am one of those. He added that he has been having these doubts for “a really long time”, and has been feeling the pressure of being one of UFC’s top fighters in the welterweight division.

“I think so (next in line)”, Maia said.

Oliveira (21-5, 1 NC; No. 6-ranked featherweight), on facing a high-profile opponent such as Pettis, an ex-lightweight champion who has endorsed A-list products such as Reebok and Wheaties.

Paige Van Zant recorded the most impressive win of her young career with a stunning jumping switch kick knockout of Bec Rawlings.

The judges had been unanimous in awarding the first fight to Miller. Lauzon actually finished the fight working on an armbar but ran out of time. “I can’t be frustrated about it because I have a fight coming up”.

The most impressive performance of the main card came courtesy of Paige VanZant, who collected a second-round knockout win over Bec Rawlings, beginning the finishing sequence with a handsome flying switch kick that landed flush and floored the Australian veteran. That’s why I am desired outside of the Octagon and I knew with the “Kickboxer” movie it would cut into this fight camp and I just had to turn it down.
