Tigers beat Birds…Bosox pad division lead

Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, who pitches here at Rogers Centre today, faced Toronto on June 5, his second start of 2016 after missing nearly two months with a knee injury. He was 10-7 with a 3.53 ERA in 24 starts for Pawtucket this season.

NY scored four times in the eighth inning for a victory over Atlanta after Curtis Granderson’s two-run homer in the sixth had snapped Julio Teheran’s 29 2/3-innings scoreless streak against them. He went 8.0 innings, allowing zero runs, striking out five and walking two. Feldman gave up four of those runs with a solo homer to Xander Bogaerts and a three-run home run to Hanley Ramirez.

Even though Carlos Martinez was far from dominant, he was good enough to deliver a 4-3 win for St. Louis over Milwaukee, thanks to two-run homers from Matt Carpenter and Stephen Piscotty.

Bautista added to that lead with a single in the third inning to cash in Donaldson from third base.

Rodriguez allowed three runs – two earned – and four hits in six innings.

It was the sixth straight victory and 15th in 19 games for the Mets, who have taken hold of a wild-card spot in the National League. Eduardo Nunez popped out to bring up Tomlinson. Dioner Navarro was charged with two official passed balls, and there were two more that got passed him that allowed runners to advance and eventually score. Kris Bryant launched a two-run homer in the fifth to help Lester improve to 16-4 and push the Cubs 40 games over.500.

The Cubs’ magic number for winning the NL Central is down to seven after Jon Lester combined with two relievers on a seven-hitter in a 2-0 shutout of Houston.

Troy Tulowitzki managed two singles and Navarro singled in the sixth and reached on an error in the eighth which drove in the third Blue Jays run.

Washington coughed up a 4-0 lead before knocking off Philadelphia 5-4 on Trea Turner’s walk-off homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth.

Ryan Goins is 1-for-2 with 1 home run and 3 RBIs. Nori Aoki and Mike Zunino homered for the Mariners, who are 3 1/2 games out of an AL postseason berth. NY also won six straight May 18-24 and remained two games back in the wild-card race and four behind in the AL East.

Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh 4-3 on Jose Peraza’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth. He is winless in nine starts but has allowed more than three earned runs just once in that stretch. Tyler Chatwood laced a two-run triple and held the Padres to a run and five hits over 6 2/3s for his 11th victory. The southpaw is coming off one of the best starts of his career.

Edwin Encarnacion Russell Martin and the rest of the Jays lineup will need to produce offensively to keep Toronto in the hunt to win the American League East
