Five people have died in a midair collision between two little commercial airplanes in the USA state of Alaska.

It’s not known why the midair crash happened about 376 miles west of Anchorage, said Allen Kenitzer, with the Federal Aviation Administration office of communications.
Those killed included three individuals on a Piper managed by Renfro’s Alaskan Adventures from an area airline, Hageland Aviation, and two on a Cessna, Alaska’s national guard, a tourism business said.
Investigators and a transportation disaster assistance specialist from the National Transportation Safety Board have been dispatched to the scene, the NTSB said.
Neither Hageland nor Renfro’s immediately responded to requests for comment.
The National Guard dispatched a Blackhawk helicopter and two flight medics from Bethel around noon to the crash site.
There were no survivors on either plane, according to rescuers at the crash site, Alaska State Troopers say.
The collision occurred just before 11 a.m. Wednesday about 60 miles, or 97 kilometers, north of Bethel, Alaska National Guard officials said.
Troopers say Wrase was flying a Ravn Alaska Cessna 208 Caravan from Russian Mission to the nearby village of Marshall.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
