San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Anthony Davis is considering retiring from the NFL.

Amidst reports that Davis, who retired once before returning after a year and a half for this season, was about to walk away from the game for a second time, Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reported Saturday that Davis had no such thought.

Cam Inman is reporting that he is now with family pondering retirement. He returned at the start of training camp this year, and proceeded to claim the starting right guard position.

A team spokesman would not confirm Davis’ intentions. The 49ers’ practice report Saturday states that Davis did not participate for a non-injury related reason, which the team said was not injury related.

According to a report from CSN Bay Area, Davis’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had no immediate comment on the issue.

Davis did not play last season after leaving the team in June 2015 for what he termed a break to get his brain and body healed from the previous five seasons as their starting right tackle. Even if Davis doesn’t retire, his Week 1 status remains up in the air Sep.

The 49ers remaining interior offensive line options on the 53-man roster are Andrew Tiller, first-round pick Joshua Garnett, Zane Beadles and Marcus Martin.

No matter how you swing it though, though, the loss of Davis would be a blow to the 49ers from both a talent and depth standpoint.
