New Quinnipiac survey finds critical swing states up for grabs

The Trump campaign is slamming Hillary Clinton after she referred to some of Donald Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables”, at a glitzy fundraiser in New York City on Friday.

Clinton reiterated that she had made mistakes in relying on a personal email account and private server as secretary of state and in voting for the 2003 invasion of Iraq as a senator. “Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic – you name it”. At the NY restaurant, Clinton bemoaned the people she described as “deplorables”, saying “unfortunately there are people like that”. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people, now have 11 million.

Clinton called on the audience, hundreds of Baptist churchgoers on their feet in that moment, to “call him out” and reject his “hateful rhetoric”.

“Hillary, they are not a basket of anything, they are Americans, and they deserve your respect”, Pence said in an address to the Values Voters Summit in Washington.

The comment was reminiscent of Trump’s January description of the loyalty of his supporters. A tisket, a tasket, Hillary’s in a basket.

Jason Miller, a Trump spokesman, said in a statement that Clinton “ripped off her mask and revealed her true contempt for everyday Americans”.

Presumably, half in the deplorable basket is now too many, according to Clinton (although perhaps she meant it was too few). They are just desperate for change. “It doesn’t even matter where it comes from”.

“It’s a war we shouldn’t have been in, number one”, Trump said in the interview.

Clinton made her remarks at an LGBT fundraiser in NY late Friday.

Other than destroying every instrument of democracy in his own country, having opposition people killed, dismembering neighbors through military force and being the benefactor of the butcher of Damascus, he’s a good guy.

“Don’t see the latest outrageous, offensive, inappropriate comment and think “well, he’s done this time”, she said.

As evidence for his claim, Trump cited a 2004 Esquire article in which he questioned the Bush administration’s handling of the war.

Democratic strategist Lis Smith said Clinton should clarify her “tone deaf, momentary gaffe”. “His disregard for the values that make our country great is profoundly risky”. Up until the final day, there were concerns that Trump might back out, one of the organizers said on condition of anonymity.

Twitter user Basketeer Vendetta, under the account Vendetta92429, tweeted out a photo of Trump supporters wearing campaign T-shirts and hats, adding: “Proud to be part of the #BasketOfDeplorables with my fellow Americans”.

Trump and Clinton are the first New Yorkers to become their parties’ nominees for president since almost 3,000 people died in the September 11 attacks.

Trump on Friday told a capacity crowd of 12,000 people at the Pensacola Bay Center arena that Clinton is above the law.

“We can’t take anyone or any place for granted and therefore I am asking you to volunteer for a phone bank or a canvass”.

“I know there are only 60 days left to make our case, and don’t get complacent”, Clinton said.
