The ‘water -resistant’ iPhone 7’s warranty will not cover liquid damage!
But there’s one huge catch that everyone buying an iPhone 7 should know, especially if they’re planning on doing that: although the device is water-resistant, the warranty doesn’t cover liquid damage.

The most awaited Smartphone of 2016 – Apple iPhone 7 and 7 Plus just touched the edge of the marketplace and kept on overwhelming the entire Smartphone arena with their high-end specs and functionalities.
With an IP67 certification, it isn’t waterproof.
According to Apple Inc., the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus can take an underwater dive for 30 minutes, but still, if you don’t have additional protection, don’t even try to test it. These iPhones have been advertised as “water and dust resistant” with an official IP67 rating under International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Standards. After the issues of battery explosion, now a new report came to the forefront that indicates that iPhone 7 warranties won’t cover liquid damage, irrespective of its resistive water features. On scrolling down the product page for iPhone 7, a footnote can be found.
The IP67 rating is a combination of both water and dust resistance index. So, as a cautionary measure, it is best to avoid contact of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with water. IP6x is the highest dust resistance rating and new iPhone models are completely protected against dust. Splash, water, and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. “Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions”, adds the company.
The latest policy and claims data from mobile phone insurance provider loveit coverit, has revealed that 42.2 percent of iPhone users cited accidental damage in their insurance claims, compared to just 21.2 percent of those who favour Samsung models.

Apple haters should note that it’s not only Cupertino doing it. Samsung itself is also stating that warranty doesn’t cover liquid damage and offers an extra protection plan that’s available for a fee should buyers want to be protected against water damage too. The main highlight of Sony’s Xperia Z-series flagship smartphones was the addition of water-resistant feature.
