SwiftKey Reveals the Most Popular Emoji in Each US State

SwiftKey, maker of a popular keyboard app for Android and iPhone, released the emoji-which-state-does-your-emoji-use-most-resemble/” target=”_blank”>U.S. Emoji Report, which details each state’s emoji-using habits.

Swiftkey Swiftkey has analyzed data in all 50 states to see which emoji best represent each state based on which are used the most.

Hawaii, however, is just as we expected with the surf and wave emojis coming out on top, as well as Washington, which successfully lived up to its stereotypes with the headphones, coffee and wine emojis being the most popular.

If you ever wondered which emoji are used in Texas more than any other state, then you’re in luck.

Kansas uses the following emoji more than any other state: Top left is a honeypot. Over a billion emoji went into this study, so the chance of these most and least popular emoji being a random result are pretty small.

Missouri ranked super highly for police emoji (what are you guys even doing over there?), Iowa was no. 1 for the corn emoji, which makes sense I guess, and New York apparently uses the Statue of Liberty emoji all the time.

“Data science is a fascinating area and what we are starting to realize is that we have an insight to see how people use emoji to express themselves”, Braidwood said.

“For example, Alabama overindexes for the elephant and octopus emoji, and Oklahoma overindexes for the ghost and the volcano emoji – we have no idea why”, she says.
