Police on Tuesday identified the elderly woman who was fatally stabbed inside her Long Island home, and they announced that her daughter is the one in custody and charged with her murder. The woman she’s accused of killing has been described as a “beloved grandmother”, police say.
Azzata would not reveal the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
Azzata says the attack was not random.
The Nassau County Homicide Squad is investigating the death of an Oceanside resident from an incident that took place on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 12:48 P.M.
Grossman was pronounced dead at 2:55 p.m. She was held without bail following her arraignment Tuesday.
“I was in my pool and I heard a scream”, she said.
A few minutes later, she said, she heard sirens and helicopters overhead. “They just told me someone got stabbed”.

Carol Kelly said her mother-in-law lives next door to the home of the victim. As detectives searched for evidence in the case, neighbors mourned the loss of a woman who was always there for others. Kelly said she had only spoken briefly to the woman.
