Trailing 28-7 at halftime, Kansas football’s defensive adjustments began to work, while the offense ignited in the third quarter, cutting the OH lead down to 10 points, but a potent Bobcat rushing attack hoarded the time of possession 43:38-16:22 and downed the Jayhawks, 37-21, Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Stadium.

Two fumbled punt returns.

“I’m proud of our guys”, coach Frank Solich said.

Windham looked poised and in control throughout the afternoon, as he led OH to a 22-0 lead after the first play of the second quarter. ABOUT KANSAS (1-0): For the first time under second-year head coach Beaty, the Jayhawks are coming off a win, and its changed the team’s attitude heading into its contest with Ohio. OH (1-1) followed with an 18-play, 81-yard drive that took 10:03 off the clock, tacking on a field goal that would provide the final margin.

Today’s Kansas Jayhawks vs OH college football game has a start time schedule of 2:30pm eastern time and will air on TV channel FSN / Fox Sports Net.

Montell Cozart had a decent day at the helm for the Jayhawks and gave OH fits at times, going 17/24 for 198 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with an injury.

Yet the Jayhawks managed to make it interesting.

After notching its first win since the 2014 season, Kansas looks to make it two straight when it hosts OH for a non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon.

Cozart hit Sims on a 74-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the second half, and then found him again from 22 yards out a few minutes later to pull within 31-21.

The outcome at Memorial Stadium was nothing new for Solich, who went 6-0 against the Jayhawks when he was with former Big 12 rival Nebraska. Kansas (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) opened last week with a win over Rhode Island but the program is going through a rebuilding phase after finishing 0-12 last season. Still, three first-half three-and-outs, a safety and 21 total yards before halftime is, as Beaty said in his postgame press conference, unacceptable for a team trying to show progress offensively. “You have to go back to what got you there”.

Overall, Ohio had the ball for 43:38, to 13:56 for Kansas.

“We trust our coaching and we know that when we go out there everything will fall into place”, said quarterback Montell Cozart, who is expected to make his second straight start Saturday. “I didn’t want to take a chance on it”, Beaty said, “because I saw the way he fell”.

Ohio: The Bobcats ran for 334 yards without top running back A.J. Ouellette, who hurt his foot the previous week. Zervos had a good day otherwise, connecting on all five of his field-goal attempts.

Kansas: The Jayhawks were 0 for 8 on third down, failed to pick up both fourth downs and still could not settle on a quarterback.

The key: KU faced a tough challenge while trailing by 13 either way, but the team’s decision to punt on fourth-and-2 from its own 45 early in the fourth quarter ended up being the Jayhawks’ final gasp.
