Policeman Killed In Gunfight Between Security Forces And Militants In J&K’s Poonch

Earlier on Sunday, a policeman was killed in an encounter in Poonch district, officials said.

The encounter started after police received information about the presence of heavily-armed terrorists in an under construction government building in the outskirts of Poonch city.

One of the injured is Sub Inspector of Special Operation Group (SoG) Manzoor Hussain and another a civilian Tariq, they said. Four weapons have been recovered from them.

It is also pointed out that Jahangir Mehal is adjacent to the Army’s 93 brigade headquarters and that it too used to be occupied by the troops until few years ago.

A youth has died in fresh clashes between protesters and security forces in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, increasing the death toll from the ongoing unrest in the region to 76.

The terrorists probably sneaked through the security grid along the Line of Control into Poonch town and launched the attack, the media reports said, citing sources.

The gunbattle between the security forces and the terrorist is ongoing and the entire area has been cordoned off.

Three ultras were killed when the army foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control in Nowgam.

The southern districts in the state’s Valley has been on the boil since July 8 when top militant commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security officers.
