North Korean leader Kim Jong-un demands ‘miraculous achievements’ in nuclear development
“We are going to work diligently together with the most recent United Nations sanctions”, Obama said after meeting with South Korean President Park Geun-hye. The 15-member Security Council toughened the sanctions in March in response to North Korea’s fourth nuclear test in January and the launch of a long-range rocket in February.

The UN Security Council on Tuesday also condemned the launches and threatened “further significant measures” if it refuses to stop its nuclear and missile tests.
“All members recognize these launches as blatant violations of the Security Council resolutions and other commitments by North Korea and they all opposed, condemned the launch in very strong terms”, Bessho said.
(Stand-up) “Experts say North Korea will continue to enhance its missiles and nuclear weapons as the only negotiating tools the regime has to prolong its survival”.
China appears to have built a new detention center near the North Korea border, according to an exclusive South Korea press report on Tuesday.
Japanese envoy Koro Bessho said that “all member states” had condemned the launches during the talks as violating United Nations resolutions, which bar North Korea from any use of ballistic missile technology.
The last UNSC resolution on North Korea, adopted on March 2 – following nearly two months of deliberations – was a response to Pyongyang carrying out a nuclear test in early January, its fourth since 2006. They flew about 1,000 km and landed in water some 400 km inside Japan’s air defence identification zone in the East Sea.
Park, meanwhile, said North Korea was “fundamentally threatening the security” of the Korean Peninsula.
Last month, it successfully tested a submarine-launched missile and development of those missiles would add a weapon that is harder to detect before launch.
Shortly after the missile launches, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met on the sidelines of the G20 summit and agreed to cooperate on monitoring the situation, a Japanese statement said.
Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama yesterday warned North Korea it was deepening its global isolation following recent missile tests that were hailed by the reclusive state’s leader as “perfect”.
Joint action by the three countries vis-a-vis North Korea has been identified as key by experts so, we expect many eyes will be on Thursday’s meeting.
