2 killed, 25 injured in protests in Indian Kashmir

The death toll in the ongoing violence that erupted after the killing of Hizb commander Burhan Wani since July 8 evening has risen to 78 with the killing of a two youth in Shopian and Anantnag towns of South Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old Kashmir protester died in another incident from pellet wounds in Anantnag district following fierce clashes between police and protesters. The deceased has been identified as Yawar Ahmad, son of Mushtaq Ahmad. He was immediately shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Ahmed, according to health officials, received pellet injuries in his chest and abdomen during a clash.
A youth was killed in teargas firing by security forces during protests in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday. The clashes were triggered after forces quelled an “azadi rally”.
Many of those injured have been hit in the eyes with pellets, causing partial or complete blindness.
Several protesters were injured.
“As soon as people started assembling in Eidgah Dardpora, government forces including police, SOG, CRPF and army attacked them”, said a local over phone.
After the fresh killings, authorities imposed curfew-like restrictions in parts of South Kashmir to prevent people from taking to roads and staging demonstrations. “Army men even chased women and beat them with guns and lathis”, he said.
The securitymen fired pellets and tear gas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse the protestors.
