Caroline Wozniacki beats injured Sevastova, reaches semis at US Open
Caroline Wozniacki, a former top-ranked player, had failed to win any matches at the majors this year when she arrived at Flushing Meadows.

The Dane has historically played her best tennis at the U.S. Open, her favorite Grand Slam.
Vinci and Kerber will meet in the last eight, while Wozniacki takes on Sevastova after the Latvian upset 13th seed Johanna Konta 6-4 7-5.
“It’s been great at periods in my career and then it’s been really bad in periods where I am like, ‘I don’t know why the timing isn’t there, ‘” said Wozniacki.
Caroline Wozniacki’s fairytale in NY continued with a 6-0, 6-2 quarterfinal win over Anastasija Sevastova at the US Open.
So imagine the little ripple of surprise Wozniacki caused the other day after she’d upset Keys – playing some tennis that was nearly as immaculate as her win over Sevastova – and actually bragged a little, saying, “I think it sucks for some of the other players to have to play me early” in tournaments. When I feel ready to open up and say something then I will, but for now I’m just here to play this tournament.
Next month’s Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open got a major boost on Tuesday when two of tennis’ hottest properties – Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki and German Angelique Kerber – set up a women’s singles semi-final clash at the US Open. A total of 43 players from 23 different countries have qualified for the annual tennis tournament. She believes the combination of the Wilson balls used at the U.S. Open and the speed of the courts is flawless for her game.
But the match promises to be very interesting because it features two talented players, both of which need to get into the quarterfinals to make a point about their respective seasons.
The U.S. Open has featured stability at the top with Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber, but what about everyone else?
After winning a tough four-setter against Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz in the first round, Djokovic was handed a walkover win in the second round when Jiri Vesely succumbed to an arm injury before the match.
“I think it was a tough match, Petra is a really great player”. The former world number one hasn’t won a title since March a year ago, but is now just two wins away from a maiden grand slam title.
After her Tuesday win, Wozniacki didn’t deny it.
The woman nicknamed “Sunshine” for her positive disposition played the role of buzz kill today blunting Keys’ superior power and using her quickness and consistency to drain 33 unforced errors while committing just seven errors of her own.
On her good days, Keys has a stronger serve than just about anyone on tour-excluding, perhaps, Serena Williams. “It’s really all I’m focused on right now”.
“I think it was nerves a little bit”, Keys, 21, told reporters.

After having reached the semi-final, Wozniacki will comeback into the top-40. Doesn’t matter if tennis, football, being a lawyer, whatever it is. “Let’s see what we will do if I win it here, but I think we will just decide it when it’s happen”. She’s a hard worker, ‘ said the Dane.
