Galaxy Note 7 smartphones recalled after battery fires — Samsung

Samsung said on Wednesday it had stopped supplying the top three local carriers with the phone, priced at 988,900 won ($886) in South Korea, and was delaying shipments as it conducts additional quality tests.
“To date (as of September 1st) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are now conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market”. Samsung smartphone business president Koh Dong-jin announced the recall in Seoul on Friday and expressed regret at the move, which will affect markets including South Korea and the US, where models feature a different battery, according to a Reuters report.
The company has decidedly pulled off its flagship handset off the shelves, assuring to restore the stocks once the battery problem is fixed.
Samsung conducted “a thorough investigation” and discovered the faulty battery issue after some buyers reported their phones caught fire or exploded while charging.
The battery issue comes less than a week before Samsung’s biggest rival, Apple, is expected to reveal its new iPhone next Wednesday.

The planned release of the Note 7 in several European countries has not been suspended over growing safety concerns.
