Thakur also justified BCCI’s objection over allotting a budget of $135 million (approx) as the organisational cost for the 2017 Champions Trophy.

Aiming to steer clear of the conflict of interest issue that has dogged the board in recent past, BCCI clarified that the applicant should not be part of any IPL team management or part of any other league in the world.

BCCI has given interested candidates time until September 14, to apply for the posts. We want to stand with those who want to do well.

“When you talk about the two-tier Test system, BCCI could have got benefits by joining hands with those associations like Australia and England, but we stood by countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, and to an extent like West Indies”.

Anurag Thakur (R) had another dig at Shashank Manohar, who had in the interview snubbed the BCCI to mind its business. Manohar had suggested that it wasn’t his responsibility but that of the BCCI representative to look after the board’s interest at the ICC table. “It is good news for us”, said Nazmul, whose board had been fiercely critical of the plan which would have effectively deprived Bangladesh of the opportunity to play major Test teams. We conducted a 49-day event, while the Champions Trophy is only a 20-day event. They have 15 matches and we had 58 matches for World T20. “Every single penny saved is every single penny earned, not only for the BCCI but for 105 countries”, he said. So we have raised this issue as the BCCI wants every single penny saved.

India played a key role in sinking a proposal for a two-tier structure in Tests but it should never have been up for discussion at the International Cricket Council’s meeting, according to Indian cricket board president Anurag Thakur. The members feels today when board needed Shashank Manohar as the president, he left the boat in the middle of the things. And now as the ICC chief, he is working against the BCCI. It is like the captain of the ship leaving the sinking ship before the other members.

Tightening the mode of appointing selectors, the BCCI said: “Candidates should be under the age of 60 and be willing to undergo a medical examination, if selected”. “One needs to understand that when the ICC constitution (abolishing Big Three) was changed, Manohar was the BCCI president”. He contended that Manohar hadn’t taken all members into confidence before the amendments were made.

On the common pool for TV rights revenue for all nations, the Bharatiya Janata Party MP sarcastically said, “If Australia and England are finding it hard to sell their broadcasting rights you can’t blame BCCI for that (reason many believe is the inspiration behind the proposed two tier format)”.

The ICC said its members had made progress on how to take all three of cricket’s formats forward and popularise the game but provided no details. The situation of BCCI- a global leader till the recommendation of the Lodha committee, now with the new ICC regime they are trying to sideline the BCCI, one of the most important stakeholders in global cricket today. We are open to changes.

Speaking to reporters inside Greater Noida Stadium where the Duleep Trophy final is taking place, the 41-year old accused Shashank Manohar of acting against his former organization by utilizing Lodha Committee’s recommendations. “We will experiment in Ranji Trophy and then I will seek a detailed report”, he said.
