Central Michigan Hail Mary & Lateral Beats Oklahoma State

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a hail mary like the one that ended Saturday’s game between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Central Michigan Punks, or the CM Punk’s as they’re known around the NCAA.

The play was eventually ruled intentional grounding because there were no receivers in the area and Central Michigan was awarded the ball and one untimed play. I feel for Oklahoma State but this play was truly incredible and one of the most fantastic plays I’ve ever seen in college football.

Oops. This game will go down in the annals of officiating mistakes as one of the more memorable ones. As a team, CMU had just 78 rushing yards, which will need to improve this year if they hope to scare the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State athletic director Mike Holder said the school attempted to get the final result reversed in the Cowboys’ favor. Watson hit beefy defensive lineman Christian Wilkins for a 1-yard score in Clemson’s jumbo goal line package, then connected with Deon Cain on a 23-yard pass for a 27-10 lead. Central Michigan quarterback Cooper Rush stepped up to evade the pass rush and delivered a deep throw short of the end zone to his right. There were egregious calls on both ends of this game, from all accounts. The 87-yard touchdown run by Adrian Killins not only was the first touchdown allowed by the MI defense this season, but it tied a Central Florida record for longest touchdown run in school history.

In other games involving Big 12 teams, Skyler Howard tied a career-high with five touchdown passes, leading West Virginia to a 38-21 victory over Youngstown State in Morgantown, W. Va. Greg Windham threw for 167 yards and a touchdown, ran for 146 yards and another score, and led OH to a 37-21 victory over mistake-prone Kansas in Lawrence, Kan.

An official signals a touchdown as Central Michigan wide receiver Corey Willis (8) celebrates with teammate Joe Bacci after s.

Central Michigan got a drive going late in the first quarter and finished it in the second quarter.

Quarterback Chad Kelly completed 20 of 27 passes for 219 yards and three touchdown passes as MS got the win at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Quarterback Mason Rudolph threw a long pass downfield just to run out the clock.

MARYLAND: It’s back to the Sunshine State next weekend for the Terrapins, who play at Central Florida on September 17 in the final tune-up before opening their Big Ten schedule at home against Purdue on October 1. This time around, the Chippewas were able run off with the victory. The Cowboys rightfully had the game won.

(10) WISCONSIN 54, AKRON 10: Corey Clement ran for two scores, Jazz Peavy had two touchdown catches and the Badgers (2-0) stuffed Akron’s spread offense in a win over the Zips (1-1) in Madison, Wisconsin.

After being held scoreless in the first quarter by Nevada (1-1), the Irish (1-1) took control with a 25-point second quarter – the most points in the quarter for Notre Dame since scoring 28 points against Pittsburgh in Charlie Weis’ debut as coach in 2005.
