Why iPhone 7 Prices Are Actually Sorta Cheap in the U.S.

Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will come in the usual Black, Gold, Silver, Rose Gold colour options, alongside a new black called simply “Jet Black”, which is much darker than previous black models. As Apple fans may already know, these were the features anticipated for the iPhone 7.

Apple cranked up its hype machine during the event, complete with presenters talking up how magical and wonderful all its new features are going to be.

Apple said during its keynote that it has kept the prices of its new smartphones the same as the iPhone 6s when it launched a year ago for their respective storage options. On the other hand the iPhone 7 Plus has dual 12MP rear cameras one wide-angle with f/1.8 aperture and a telephoto lens with f/2.8 aperture for new depth-of-field and has OIS along with Quad-LED True Tone flash.

For the Plus model of the phone, the 32GB is $84 more expensive in Canada, while the top-end, 256GB version is $61 more expensive. Frankly, if you couldn’t scrape the funds together for a 64GB iPhone, you were better off looking at Android alternatives.

The price gap will also affect Apple’s other big products announced on Wednesday. The 128GB version of the phone will retail at $749 (approximately £562, AU$979) while the 256GB version comes in at $849 (approximately £638, AU$1,109). The iPad Pro also got a price cut with the price of the 128 GB version down by $50 and the 256 GB model now priced $100 less.

For the iPhone 7 Plus, prices ranged from $0 to $878 for the 32GB model.

Overall, Apple’s pricing strategy is downright weird.

The price of the iPhone 6s Plushas also been slashed from £619 to £599 for the 16GB model. The Cupertino-based tech company has been slashing prices, ditching and upgrading devices all over.

Price plans for the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released in Singapore on Saturday (Sept 10).

With the new implemented base storage option, Apple is giving its consumers more leeway for the content of their devices at a lower cost. For higher-capacity phones though, and especially for a phone that costs $1569, a contract buy might be your most sensible option.
