Syria civil war: Deadly blasts hit government and Kurdish areas

Bombings claimed by the Islamic State group killed dozens in mainly government-controlled areas of Syria on Monday, as Washington and Moscow failed to agree a deal to stem the violence.

Attackers detonated two bombs at the entrance of the government stronghold of Tartus along the worldwide coastal highway, SANA said, killing 30. It was hit by two blasts, the second of which killed 30 civilians and injured another 17.

A vehicle bomb exploded and as rescue workers approached to help victims, a suicide bomber detonated his vest, state media reported.

“The first blast was a auto bomb and the second a suicide bomber who detonated his explosive belt when people gathered to help the wounded”, according to state television.

Meanwhile, a bomber also struck in the northeastern city of Hasakeh, which is mostly controlled by Kurdish forces, killing at least eight more people.

Syrian state TV said 48 people were killed, but British-based monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the toll at 53 people.

In a battle, against ISIS also claimed the lives of many innocent people including little kids.

Syria’s cabinet said the attacks were a response to the recapture on Sunday by the army and its allies of a district of Aleppo that insurgents had seized last month, reinstating a siege on rebel-held parts of the city.

Foreign and Expatriates Ministry affirmed on Monday that the terrorist, bloody explosions which took place today in the Syrian cities of Tartous, Homs, Damascus countryside and Hasaka are a continuation of the systemized terrorism practiced by the terrorist organizations, calling on Security Council to take immediate, punitive and deterrent procedures against the countries that support terrorism.

Shortly after the Tartus bombings, at least four people were killed when a auto bomb exploded in Homs, central Syria, which is also held by the government.

Hasakeh city has been regularly targeted by IS, including in July when a motorcycle bomber killed at least 16 people outside a bakery in the city.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin and his USA counterpart Barack Obama met on Monday 5 September to discuss the crisis in Syria but were unable to come to any initial agreements.

“The Syrian regime knows the language of force and with its jets uses scorched-earth bombing so its troops then advance and take territory”.

A third attack targeted a Syrian army checkpoint in the al-Sabura area west of the capital Damascus, killing three people, the observatory said. The state news agency Sana said the attack killed one person, while the Observatory said three people were killed.

IS also said it detonated an explosive device in Qamishli, in the Hasakeh province, targetting a group of Kurdish fighters.
