Police said Brackeen’s condition is stable but critical, but a statement released by the police department on behalf of his mother, Phyllis Brackeen, said he isn’t showing brain function. Other responding officers heard the gunshots and found Brackeen.

After investigating, authorities have issued a warrant for 23-year-old Irving Lucien Fenner Jr. for attempted murder. Saturday evening she posted saying his condition is, “very serious right now” and that, “they can’t get the blood pressure to stop dropping”. She continued with, “If he pulls thru this, it will only be because God steps in and does the impossible”.

A person was taken into custody but released several hours later, WCNC reported. More charges may be added later as the investigation progresses. His last known address is 2506 Blacksburg Road in Grover, Ledord said.

Brackeen started working with the Shelby Police Department in July 2004.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the case, Ledford said. Brackeen was named officer of the year in 2012.
