The company’s ultimate goal, though, is to transition consumers to completely wireless earphones.

But that strategy has some risks.
Got a pair of 3.5mm headphones or an aux cord? And, perhaps, also easily dislodged or misplaced.
But gone is the traditional headphone jack, requiring audio to be delivered via Apple’s proprietary “lightning” connector or by wireless – and that may irk iPhone users with a fondness for wired headsets.
“The camera was the biggest upgrade, [and] I believe the new 7 Plus camera could be a true game changer as I can argue it now competes with entry DSLRS”, said Patrick Moorhead, an analyst at Moor Insights and Strategy. “The launch will be done through special events at select stores in key cities”, a company statement said. There will also be new lock screen options and notifications for iOS, an updated command center for the Apple Watch, and various changes to Apple Music, News, Maps and many other services.
Given that iPhone sales are in decline for the first time, this was not the revolution that investors may have hoped for, and while there are several tweaks (for effect, Apple ran through an 10-point list on Wednesday) the iPhone 7 will not quiet the critics who claim that Apple’s run of world-beating innovations has slowed down. They have “better processors, water resistance and new home buttons” reacting to varying pressure levels, apart from larger amounts of storage.
“We’re just at the beginning of a truly wireless future we’ve been working towards for many years”, added chief design officer Jonathan Ive.
Apple says the new “AirPods” will work for five hours before their batteries need re-charging; they come with a small charging case that’s supposed to provide 24 hours of additional juice before the case itself needs to be recharged. Or like Apple actually did make AirPods by cutting the cables on your EarPods, but cut them a little too low. Schiller didn’t mention rival devices during his presentation, nor did he even use the word “Bluetooth”. The AirPod ear pieces resemble Apple’s wired earbuds, and fit snugly into a dental floss-sized charging box. But my refrigerator still chills my food and my stove heats it up and even though there are some really incredible coffee makers out there, I don’t feel compelled to replace mine, just because it’s a few years behind the times.
“[The iPhone 7] should set the stage for a more transformational release in 2017”, Ives said.

The iPhone 7 may not have been revolutionary, but analysts believe there’s enough to encourage existing customers to upgrade their phones and even convert some Android users, which might ultimately curb Apple’s declining sales.

O’Donnell, for instance, considers the changes from last year’s iPhones “modest” overall. While a record 13 million iPhone buyers previous year just picked up the device in the first three days, Apple said that for the newest device, “initial sales will be governed by supply, not demand, and we have decided that it is no longer a representative metric for our investors and customers”. While none of these other product categories evolve as quickly as smartphones, there are regular innovations and, if you were to shop around, you would find some pretty cool new offerings for every one of these categories. “Three months later, it will be, ‘Why did we ever have that?'”
