Justina Mintz/AMCThe characters on “Fear the Walking Dead” will be years behind those on “The Walking Dead“. They were just “infected” with some mysterious illness. The series is set in Los Angeles and chronicles the beginning of the zombie apocalypse we all know and are terrified by love. “Our characters will be up to speed, and they will know that the world has changed and the apocalypse has come, but there’s still going to be a lot of real estate to explore”.
“We didn’t go as severe as “The Walking Dead“ contact lenses because in “The Walking Dead“ the eyes are pretty dramatic”, said Nicotero.
Rather, it’s a line from two freelance L.A. creative directors, Charlie Noback and Brian Engleman, who are launching an Instagam called Cheer the Walking Dead. Take the quiz below and post your results in the comments!
Up until now “The Walking Dead” has taken place on the east coast, down in Atlanta while slowly working its way up to Alexandria, Virginia.
However, creator of the show Robert Kirkman, did shut down the rumors last year on the theory about Rick’s coma, saying that it is happening very much so on The Walking Dead timeline. “We began exploring some of the aspects of a much more desert type climate”, Nicotero explained. So while we have seen the trailer involving Tobias, what sort of character is he?
In charting the origins of “The Walking Dead“‘s apocalyptic onslaught, Erickson says he was keen on crafting a family drama – albeit with zombies – that a broad audience could sink their teeth into. Since he’s been doing double duty working on season six of “The Walking Dead“, he’s ok with that. “We can, and do, go in any direction we imagine and that’s made for, I think, a companion show that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the original”. So following this, it can also be assumed that the Fear of the Walking Dead may be existing within its own universe as well, in connection to the main show.
Nicotero was only able to be on set for “Fear” for three episodes.

Unfortunately, that’s not a tagline for Fear the Walking Dead, which premieres this Sunday on AMC as the second series in the cable-television-eating Walking Dead zombie franchise.
