Jacob DeGrom expected to miss next Mets’ start
In an unforeseen development, considering how pitching-blessed they were to open the season, the Mets already are using rookies Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman in the rotation. As he left the dugout after five innings in a loss to Miami, he waved for the team trainer to join him.

“When I walk four guys, I can’t throw the ball where I want right now”.
DeGrom struck out six batters, however he walked a season-high four. I got to figure that out.
“I’m pretty certain I’ll be back out there”, deGrom said Friday night.
On whether there was anything beyond deGrom’s rhythm and location that was a problem on Thursday, Collins said “I have nothing to say at this time about Jake”. There was an insistence from all involved that everything was fine, but manager Terry Collins seemed to indicate that wasn’t the case when speaking to the media on Friday. Yelich hit a home run, two singles, drove in four runs, and stole two bases.
“Well it’s quite obvious”. He also made a dashing, diving catch in center field with the bases loaded and two outs – that made up for him later dropping a routine fly for an error. “That’s been the big issue”, he said. All three of his home runs over the past three games were opposite-field shots.
What makes this news even worse is that one of the top prospects in the farm system for the Mets, Dilson Herrera, was traded away at the trade deadline for RF Jay Bruce.
The Mets will use Wilmer Flores and Kelly Johnson at second base.
RHP Fernando Salas pitched a scoreless inning a day after the Mets acquired him from the Angels for a minor leaguer.
Jeff Francoeur and Xavier Scruggs also drove in runs as the Marlins put an very bad August to rest with a winning start to September. Mets: Cespedes and Cabrera didn’t start after it rained most of the afternoon.
Cabrera (left knee) and Cespedes (right quad) didn’t start for the Mets, who learned Wednesday that fellow middle-of-the-order hitter Neil Walker will undergo season-ending back surgery. And Zack Wheeler is no longer expected back in 2016 after his latest setback in his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Miami began August four games out of first place in the National League East and one game up in the race for the second wild card spot but finished it 11 games behind the Washington Nationals in the division and 3 1/2 games behind the second wild card, the St. Louis Cardinals.

DeGrom speculated that the inflammation could be caused by his mechanics being out of sync, and does not believe it’s the reason for his 9.82 ERA over his last three starts.
