Smartphone batteries have been shown to explode or burn while charging, prompting recall of 2.5 million units.. The company shares dipped after the air safety regulators deemed the Galaxy Note 7 a potential fire hazard on flights.

Dubai airline Emirates also issued a statement confirming the ban of the Note 7 onboard its aircraft.

“Our number one priority is the safety of our customers”. “These incidents have occurred while charging and during normal use, which has led us to call for consumers to power down their Note7s”.

Samsung recalled the phone last week after reports emerged of the device exploding during or after charging. Thing is, the United States is a huge market and Samsung is trying hard as we speak to convince its customers to return the presumably faulty devices. “We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding”. Samsung Electronics has also halted the sale of the newest Note series worldwide. The company says new Note 7 phones will not be available until after the CPSC finishes its “process”, but owners can exchange the Note 7s now for a different model.

The warning, issued in a news release Friday, came amid recent news that lithium-ion batteries in certain Note7 devices had resulted in fires. While we’re glad that no one has been hurt, this is still incredibly nerve-wracking and we urge anyone with the Samsung Note 7 to never put that thing near a charger.

The national carrier said Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones are also prohibited from carriage in checked-in baggage. In the meantime, select mobile operators and retailers will hand over a loaner phone in the exchange of current Note 7 phones.

The other option is to get a Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge, i.e. a trade-in deal and a cash settlement, including a $25 gift card.

A few users are not happy with the option of the loaner phones. Samsung is the world’s top smartphone maker, outpacing its American rival Apple.

The company promised to offer new replacements to all buyers at home and overseas. The new Note 7 packaging has an identifier on the box, a small black square on the white barcode label along with a white sticker with a blue letter “S” on it.
